MJ, repackaged

Those annoying Funko Pops may be a relic of 2021, but thanks to a Shopper’s Drug Mart gift card I scored for my birthday, I decided to officially get on the Michael bandwagon by picking this up from the not-so-bargain bin:

Critics (that is, Left-wing mainstream media) have collectively decided that the Michael Jackson biopic, is a cinematic disaster. Their primary grievance? The film conveniently forgets to mention the persistent sexual misconduct allegations and the cascading scandals that systematically dismantled the career and reputation of the self-appointed King of Pop.

Meanwhile, in alternative media circles, Right-leaning social media influencers are hard at work on the Great Michael Jackson Rehabilitation Project. In their view, the mainstream press is simply obsessed with further sabotaging the Gloved One’s name and legacy.

I’m sitting this one out.

While the pundits trade barbs, the movie is currently raking in loads of cash.

I have a soft spot for the Off the Wall album and the songs Billie Jean and Beat It. In short, I liked MJ before he began his slow-motion transition into Dirty Diana Ross and ultimately finalized his transformation into a middle-aged white woman. I’ve always been a Madonna fan.

But right now, in 2026, I view both of them less as music icons and more as unintentional comedy legends. They’ve moved past artistry and into the realm of pure caricature, serving as the ultimate stock for parody and satire. At this point, they’re just punchlines.
